A cannabis disposable vape is a sealed device with a battery, a heating coil, and a pre-filled cartridge. Most models hold 0.5 mL to 2 mL of oil and 350 mAh to 500 mAh of battery. Draw for 2 to 3 seconds, wait 5 to 10 seconds, then check the effect before the next draw. The device is not refillable, and most models are not rechargeable.

Before the first draw

  • Read the label: total CBD or THC in milligrams, batch number, lab test result.
  • Hemp-derived products sold online must contain 0.3% or less delta-9 THC by dry weight under the 2018 Farm Bill. THC vapes above that limit are legal in some states only.
  • Age: 21 or older in most US states.
  • Charge state: many disposables ship charged. A dead device shows no light and makes no vapor.

Steps

  1. Pull the silicone plug out of the mouthpiece. Peel the sticker off the bottom contact or the airflow hole.
  2. Check for a button. Draw-activated models have none. If a button is present, press it 5 times in 2 seconds to turn the device on. Some models use 2 presses for a preheat cycle.
  3. Put the mouthpiece to your lips. Inhale slow and steady for 2 to 3 seconds. Fast pulls move oil into the airway and cause clogs.
  4. Hold the vapor for 1 to 2 seconds. Exhale.
  5. Wait. Inhaled cannabinoids reach the blood in seconds to about 10 minutes. A second draw inside that window stacks the dose.
  6. Cap the mouthpiece and set the device upright when finished.

Dosing

Labels list total milligrams per device, not per puff. One estimate: a 1 mL cartridge with 500 mg CBD and 300 puffs works out to about 1.5 mg per puff. Coil temperature, draw length, and oil viscosity shift that number. Start with one 2-second draw and wait 10 minutes. Per-puff potency data is often missing from labels, and no standard test exists for it.

Storage

  • Upright at 68 to 77 F (20 to 25 C).
  • Above 80 F the oil thins and leaks into the airway.
  • Below 60 F the oil thickens and vapor output drops. Warm the device in your hand for 1 to 2 minutes.
  • Keep out of direct sunlight. UV light degrades cannabinoids.

Common problems

  • Weak vapor: low oil, cold oil, or a clogged airway. Draw for 1 second without inhaling.
  • Burnt taste: the wick is dry. Stop. The coil is overheating.
  • No vapor with a lit light: clog. No light: empty battery.
  • Oil in the mouth: the device was stored upside down or the draw was too hard.

Safety

The CDC investigated EVALI, a lung injury outbreak in 2019 and 2020. Vitamin E acetate in THC vapes was the main cause. CDC data linked about 2,800 hospitalizations. Do not buy unregulated cartridges. Do not drive after use. Talk to a clinician if you take prescription drugs.

Disposal

The battery is lithium-ion. Do not put it in household trash. Tape the contacts and take it to a battery recycling drop-off. The EPA lists lithium batteries as a fire risk in collection trucks and landfills. State rules on vape disposal differ, so check your local program.
